Detroit’s Slows Bar BQ opens Grand Rapids location

Grand Rapids — A popular Detroit barbecue restaurant has opened a Grand Rapids location.

Slows Bar BQ, which got its start in Detroit’s Corktown neighborhood, officially opened Thursday at the Grand Rapids Downtown Market. The western Michigan location features a menu similar to the Detroit location’s offerings and provides to-go service.

Customers at SlowsGR place orders at a window and find seats along several rows of long tables with benches. Phil Cooley, co-owner of SlowsGR, says in a statement that the market location presented a great opportunity for Slows to “create a presence” in the area.

The Grand Rapids Downtown Market aims to foster a community of food entrepreneurs committed to locally produced ingredients.
