Police: Single-plane crash kills Farmington Hills pilot

Associated Press

Harbor Springs — Authorities say a 58-year-old pilot from Farmington Hills has died in a small plane crash near an airport in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula.

The Petoskey News-Review reports the plane was discovered around 7:30 a.m. Monday in Emmet County’s Little Traverse Township. Authorities say Arthur A. Green III was the only person aboard.

The sheriff’s department says the plane crashed about 11 p.m. Sunday approaching the airport for Harbor Springs, about 55 miles northeast of Traverse City.

Green, a first lieutenant with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources’ Law Enforcement Division, was going to a meeting in a private plane. He had been a Detroit police officer before joining the DNR in 1996.

The cause is under investigation.
