The cool temperatures that chilled Metro Detroit on Wednesday are sticking around at least through the weekend.

After dropping to the 40s early Thursday, the region could see highs in the low 60s, the National Weather Service said.

Similar readings are on tap for Friday, but the thermometer on Saturday could hover in the 50s with a chance of showers, according to the weather service. Lows both nights are expected to dip into the 40s.

That follows the fall-like temperatures overnight Wednesday.

Winds are expected to calm to 10 miles per hour and overnight skies will be mostly clear, said Dan Thompson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in White Lake Township.

No frost was expected for Metro Detroit overnight, Thompson said, but in the Upper Peninsula, a frost advisory was in effect from 2-9 a.m. Thursday for cities including Sault Ste. Marie and St. Ignace.

Temperatures there were expected to drop to as low as 29 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Gaylord.
