Glover Quin plays, extends streak to 99 games
Detroit -- Lions safety Glover Quin hasn't missed a game since his rookie year in 2009, and despite suffering a concussion last Monday, he kept his streak alive Sunday as he made his 99th consecutive start against the 49ers at Ford Field.
The 29-year-old safety prides himself on his ability to play through pain, but his timetable for recovery was out of his hands with the brain injury. Fortunately for the Lions, he returned to practice Friday and passed the NFL's concussion protocol Saturday morning.
“Unless something happens this week in practice, I’ll get 100-consecutive starts next week, man,” Quin said. “I told some of the boys, if it happens, it’s probably one of my proudest moments just throughout my career. Just to be able to play in not just 100 games total, but 100 consecutive starts, that’s definitely a blessing and I’m just hoping that next week goes great. And we’ll see what happens.”
Quin had five tackles in the game.
Wide receiver Corey Fuller, running back George Winn, cornerback Bill Bentley, center Gabe Ikard, offensive tackle Corey Robinson and defensive tackles Gabe Wright and Jermelle Cudjo were inactive for the Lions.
For the 49ers, running back Shaun Draughn, offensive lineman Marcus Martin, wide receiver Jerome Simpson, cornerback Chris Davis, guard Brandon Thomas and linebackers Michael Wilhoite and Corey Lemonier were inactive.
