Chicago — Matt Prater kicked the longest field goal in NFL history when he was with the Broncos in 2013, and on Sunday, he broke a distance record for the Lions.

With a 59-yard field goal against the Bears at Soldier Field, Prater now has the longest field goal in Lions history, breaking Jason Hanson's previous record of 56 yards.

Prater missed a 54-yard field goal wide right midway through the second quarter, but with one second left, the Lions coaches sent him out for the 59-yarder. And he put it straight through the goal posts on the north end of the stadium.

Prater has made five field goals of 50-plus yards this season. As of halftime, he was 22-of-24 for the season.
