Lions' Swanson possibly facing surgery

Chicago — Lions coach Jim Caldwell said Sunday there’s a chance center Travis Swanson will need surgery for the shoulder injury that forced him onto injured reserve Saturday.

Swanson did not travel with the team to Chicago because “he is hurting pretty good,” Caldwell said, but he still has to undergo further evaluation.

A third-round pick in 2014, Swanson started 14 games at center this year, missing the finale with the shoulder injury and Week 13 due to an ankle injury. Manny Ramirez started in his place both times.

At least three Lions players suffered injuries in Sunday’s win over the Bears, but Caldwell indicated they weren’t serious. Safety Isa Abdul-Quddus (shoulder), right tackle Michael Ola (ribs) and cornerback Crezdon Butler (undisclosed) all exited the game.
