Yzerman will play in Wings-Avalanche alumni game

Red Wings great and NHL Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman will participate in the alumni game ahead of Detroit's outdoor game vs. the Avalanche at Coors Field in February.

Yzerman's participation in the Friday, Feb. 26 Wings-Avalanche alumni game was confirmed to The Detroit News by Kris Draper.

Yzerman, general manager of the Lightning, played for Detroit in the Wings-Maple Leafs alumni game at Comerica Park as part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival on Dec. 31, 2013.

Draper, special assistant to Wings general manager Ken Holland, also is participating in the alumni game, which will begin at 7 p.m. at Coors Field.

Fans can vote Larkin into All-Star Game event

The main event Wings-Avalanche Stadium Series game will take place the following night, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. ET.

About 50 former players and coaches are expected to participate in the alumni game. Here are some of the players confirmed as participating:

Red Wings: Doug Brown, Dino Ciccarelli, Kris Draper, Steve Duchesne, Jiri Fischer, Tomas Holmstrom, Joe Kocur, Martin Lapointe, Nicklas Lidstrom, Kirk Maltby, Larry Murphy, Steve Yzerman.

Avalanche: Craig Billington, Rob Blake, Ray Bourque, Adam Foote, Peter Forsberg, Claude Lemieux, Curtis Leschyshyn, Sandis Ozolinsh, Mike Ricci, Patrick Roy, Joe Sakic, Chris Simon, Stephane Yelle.
