Pistons center Andre Drummond (0) will compete in the Slam Dunk Contest on Feb. 13 in Toronto.

Auburn Hills — It’s official.

Andre Drummond will take part in the Slam Dunk Contest on Feb. 13 at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre during All-Star weekend. The NBA announced the participants for each All-Star event prior to the Pistons nationally televised game.

But one thing is for sure. Pistonst coach Stan Van Gundy probably won’t be watching.

“If (Drummond) wants to do that, great for him and have fun. But that’s totally up to him,” Van Gundy said. “That’s not something I would get involved in and it’s not something that will take care of my Saturday night.”

Timberwolves guard Zach LaVine will return to defend his title against Drummond, Magic forward Aaron Gordon and Nuggets guard Will Barton.

Drummond, who was named a reserve on the Eastern Conference team, will be the first Pistons center and third player to participate in the dunk contest, joining Jerry Stackhouse (2000) and Allan Houston (1994). Both Stackhouse and Houston failed to make it out of the first round of the event.
