Michigan State could hardly miss in the first half, opening an 18-point lead midway through the half. Bryn Forbes was the catalyst, hitting seven of his nine 3-point attempts in the opening 20 minutes, scoring 23 points to give the Spartans a 44-28 lead at halftime.

The Spartans got things rolling early as they hit their first five shots from long range while Michigan made just one of its first nine. The Wolverines were 4-for-16 from 3-point range in the opening half while Michigan State made 10 of 14.

Denzel Valentine has 12 points for Michigan State on 5-for-7 shooting, but has turned the ball over a couple of times.

Derrick Walton Jr. is leading Michigan with 11 points, hitting a pair of 3-pointers in the final minute to keep the Wolverines in the game.

Michigan's Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, left; and Mark Donnal block Michigan State's Denzel Valentine's route to the basket in the first half.
