MSU’s Valentine earns 3rd weekly Big Ten honor

The Detroit News

Denzel Valentine only played one game this week, but he made the most of it.

The Michigan State senior guard was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday after his 21-point, nine-rebound, eight-assist effort in Saturday’s 89-73 victory over Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Valentine is averaging 18.6 points, 6.7 assists and 7.9 rebounds per game for the Spartans (20-4), who climbed to No. 8 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25.

MSU moves up to No. 8 in AP, No. 9 in coaches polls

It’s the third time he’s earned the weekly honor, and one of three Michigan State players to earn Big Ten honors this season. Senior Bryn Forbes (player of the week) and freshman Deyonta Davis (freshman of the week) are the others.

Michigan State is at Purdue on Tuesday.
