Ex-Spartan Fowler gives Manning ball from 2-point catch

The Detroit News

Former Michigan State wide receiver Bennie Fowler has had a change of heart.

A ball the Broncos receiver caught from quarterback Peyton Manning for a two-point converstion in Super Bowl 50 originally was going to go to Fowler’s mother. Instead, Fowler posted on Twitter on Tuesday, it will be returned to the quarterback, who with that two-point conversion might have thrown his final pass in a Hall-of-Fame career.

“Could it be his last completion?,” Fowler tweeted. “I don't know but I gave the ball back to him because he deserves it #Respect”

Fowler’s message included a photo of him with Manning and the ball.

Manning, 39, has spent 18 seasons in the NFL, including the last four with the Broncos, winning Super Bowls in Denver and Indianapolis.

Manning was 13 of 23 for 141 yards and no touchdowns in the Broncos’ 24-10 victory over the Panthers in Super Bowl 50. The two-point conversion was Fowler’s only catch, which doesn’t count as an official reception.
