Pleasant Ridge — Suspected carbon monoxide poisoning killed a 61-year-old woman in her home early Thursday, according to police.

First responders arrived around 12:30 a.m. to the home at Maywood and Indiana where they found the woman dead in the living room, Police Chief Kevin Nowak said.

“Another person, he was the husband, he refused transport. He was treated at the scene,” Nowak said of the 61-year-old survivor. “He was walking around, conscious, lucid.”

The woman’s body was taken to the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be performed to confirm the carbon monoxide suspicions.

“But the fire department took readings and there were elevated levels of carbon monoxide in the home,” Nowak said.

The cause of the high levels remains unclear pending further investigation, he said.

“There were no signs of foul play,” Nowak added.
