Bloomfield Township police are seeking tips to find a man accused of trying to kidnap two people at a shopping center Thursday.

A 20-year-old woman told investigators she was parking her vehicle near the Qdoba restaurant off Square Lake and Woodward around 1:45 p.m. when the man approached, “forced open the driver side door and asked her if she wanted to make $100,000,” police said in a statement.

When she refused, the suspect became “more aggressive” and “attempted to forcibly remove her from her vehicle.”

The woman resisted, staying inside while the man fled to a red, full-size panel van and appeared to leave the parking lot, according to officials.

But a few minutes after she entered Qdoba for help from workers, the suspect also came inside and approached another female waiting in line, police said.

He tried to lure that person out but she also rebuffed him; the man left and was last seen driving away in the red van without a license plate or rear windows, authorities said.

A second person also was inside. Investigators did not release a description, but “the Bloomfield Township Police Department has received additional reports that the suspect(s) were seen loitering in other nearby businesses in the shopping center,” according to the statement Thursday.

The first suspect is described as African-American, 40-50 years old, between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches tall, 180-200 pounds, with short black hair, a thick, trimmed mustache, medium complexion and distinctive mole on one eye. He was last seen wearing a black knit-style hat, green army-style jacket and dark pants.

Investigators released an image of him captured on surveillance footage to generate tips.
