Lions snag Michigan native Zettel for defensive line
Allen Park — The Lions drafted two former University of Michigan players among their first seven picks, and with their eighth selection, they took a Michigan native.
Former Penn State defensive lineman Anthony Zettel, a native of West Branch, was Detroit’s selection with the No. 202 overall pick in the sixth round.
The 6-foot-4, 277-pound Zettel likely fits as a defensive end for the Lions as he has a good combination of size, athleticism and strength.
As a junior, Zettel was a force for the Nittany Lions with 42 tackles, 17 for loss, eight sacks and three interceptions. He followed with a solid senior season even if it wasn’t quite as productive — 46 tackles, 11 for loss and four sacks. But Zettel played on a defensive line loaded with talent as his teammates Austin Johnson and Carl Nassib were both Day 2 draft picks.
