Spartans use three-run fifth to beat Wolverines, 7-4

Michigan State took the lead with a three-run fifth inning Sunday and went on to beat Michigan, 7-4, in Big Ten baseball Sunday at Wilpon Field in Ann Arbor.

The Spartans took two games in the three-game series after the Wolverines won on Friday. MSU (30-11, 10-5) also moved ahead of No. 16 UM (29-12, 9-5) in the Big Ten standings.

After the Spartans made two outs in the fifth, Royce Ando singled. He scored on a double by Brandon Hughes and Jordan Zimmerman followed with an RBI triple. Dan Durkin singled in Zimmerman.

Zimmerman also had an RBI single and Zach McGuire had an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.

Cody Bruder and Michael Brdar each had RBI singles in the eighth for Michigan.
