Pair steals $1,600 in liquor from Macomb Twp. Kroger

A pair of thieves made off with $1,600 in liquor from a Macomb Township grocery stores last month and law enforcement is asking for the public’s help in finding them.

Police believe this man is a suspected of stealing $1,600 in liquor from a Macomb Township grocery store last month.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff Office, the thefts occurred during two incidents in April at the Kroger at 21555 21 Mile Road. The suspects are also believed to be responsible for similar thefts from other Kroger locations, said Lt. John Michalke.

The first theft occured April 12 at 10:15 p.m. when a male suspect entered a store with a backpack. He filled the backpack and another container with liquor bottles. He then placed the liquor into a shopping cart and pushed it toward the exit.

As the man tried to leave the building the doors were partially closed and locked, authorities said. A woman driving a silver Ford Mustang drove up and helped to force the doors open.

Both suspects hopped in the Mustang and left the parking lot heading westbound on 21 Mile, according to the sheriff’s office. About $1,000 in liquor was taken.

Police believe this woman is a suspected of stealing $1,600 in liquor from a Macomb Township grocery store last month.

The thieves struck the same Kroger two weeks later. According to the sheriff’s office, on April 26 at 9:42 p.m. surveillance footage showed the woman entering the store with a duffle bag on her shoulder. She placed 16 bottles of liquor in the bag, left it in a shopping cart in the liquor aisle and left the store.

The man then entered the store, grabbed the bag and walked out. He then got into the same Mustang from the first incident. Authorities estimate about $600 in liquor was taken.

The man is described to be 25 to 35 years old, 5-foot-7 with a thin build. The woman is described as 30 to 40 years old, 5-foot-4 with a medium build.

The vehicle is a 2004 Ford Mustang belonging to a 42 year-old Warren woman, authorities said. The vehicle’s owner is not believed to be a suspect, however, she has not been cooperative with police, Michalke said.
