Ann Arbor — Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh took some swings prior to the softball team’s practice Wednesday to make final preparations for the big Home Run Derby.

Harbaugh dropped by Alumni Field on the eve of the competition against fellow former Michigan quarterback Rick Leach, which will take place from 7-7:20 p.m. This is the first Home Run Derby associated with the Michigan Softball Academy, a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

After taking batting practice, Harbaugh joked he hopes he “doesn’t pull anything” during the competition.

Leach, who played professional baseball, and Harbaugh will each get 10 pitches. Donations can be made in each name — the one with the most money donations will choose his batting order.
