Animal lovers, prepare to take the pup for a walk at the Mutt Strut & Pet Expo in Dearborn next week.

The event, which raises money for the Dearborn Animal Shelter, is scheduled to run 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 14 at Ford Field Park, 22051 Cherry Hill.

Presented by Dearborn Family Pet Care, it’s open to all pet enthusiasts and formally starts with a 2.4-mile walk at 11 a.m.

There are other free, family-friendly activities as well, including the exciting Disc Dogs of Michigan Frisbee competition, the K9 Fun Run contest, Metro Detroit food trucks and vendors with pet-related items, coordinators said.

Though the event is free, “some activities for dogs may include a nominal donation to benefit the Dearborn Animal Shelter,” organizers said.

The fundraiser has a pledge goal of $75,000. Fundraising by pledging is made easy with personalized online pages that teams or individuals can set up in minutes by visiting http://dearbornmuttstrut.com/

Registration is available online at http://dearbornmuttstrut.com/ and opens for walk-ups at 9 a.m. the day of the event.
