Two Garden City Public Schools students were arrested this week after authorities recovered weapons at Cambridge High, district officials said.

Police took the youths, who have not been named, into custody on Tuesday, Superintendent Derek Fisher said in a statement.

They were identified through an investigation, which led to the recovery of two firearms after administrators had placed the school building on lockdown about 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, he said.

“Based on information so far, there does not appear to have been a plan to harm other students or staff members in the school environment,” Fisher wrote. “Certainly, any dangerous weapon, especially a firearm is cause for alarm. Considering this, please know that the safety of students, staff and all members of our school community is of the utmost importance.”

Other details were not released. Police did not release information Wednesday night.
