A 21-year-old Macomb Township man was ticketed after rear-ending a L’Anse Creuse Public Schools elementary school bus Thursday morning in Macomb Township.

The bus was stationary on 21 Mile, near Parkland Court, about 8:16 a.m. when it was rear-ended by a 2009 Ford Escape. The bus did have its red flashers on, police said.

The driver of the Ford Escape, a 21-year-old Macomb Township man, was trapped in the SUV after the crash, which caused the vehicle extensive damage. He had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters from Macomb Township. He was transported to McLaren Macomb Hospital for treatment.

Some 25 students, who attend Atwood Elementary School, were on the school bus at the time. No students were injured in the crash, but all were removed from the bus as a safety precaution while the crash was being investigated. They were taken to school in a different bus, police said.

The driver of the Escape was ticketed for careless driving, and no speed determinations were made, the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office said.
