Michigan State softball gives up 3 runs in 7th, loses

Illinois eliminated Michigan State from the Big Ten softball tournament Thursday, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 3-2 victory in State College, Pa.

The Spartans (27-28) had taken a 2-0 lead on Sarah Gutknecht’s two-run double in the sixth inning, but Illinois scored a run on three singles and two more on errors.

Illinois will face Minnesota Friday.

Top seed Michigan will play its opening game Friday at 8 p.m. against Indiana, a 4-0 winner over Wisconsin.
