A 25-year-old man died late Thursday in a motorcycle crash after apparently weaving in and out of traffic, according to the Troy Police Department.

The Romeo resident was seen by witnesses driving erratically with two other motorcycles around 10:30 p.m. along eastbound Big Beaver near Daley, police said. He lost control of his 2001 Yamaha, struck a curb on the south side of the roadway, was ejected from his vehicle and struck a sign.

The man traveled several feet through the air before hitting the pavement, police said. He was wearing a helmet but was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash comes on the same day a study by the Governors Highway Safety Association revealed that motorcycle deaths in Michigan jumped 23 percent in 2015.

Officials are not naming the deceased pending notification of his next-of-kin.

The two other motorcycle drivers seen driving with the man were not involved in the crash and were uninjured.

The South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team (SOCCIT) investigated the crash, closing eastbound Big Beaver for about four hours.

Witnesses are asked to contact the Troy Police Traffic Safety Unit at (248) 524-3477.
