Datsyuk nets three assists, Russia tops USA

Moscow — Red Wings star Pavel Datsyuk had three assists, helping Russia beat the United States 7-2 in the bronze medal game at the world championship on Sunday.

Ahead of the final between Canada and Finland later Sunday, Russia was in full control, taking a 4-0 lead in the second period before countering any hopes of an American comeback.

Russian forward Sergei Mozyakin scored two goals, and Sergei Bobrovsky produced some impressive saves to protect the lead.

Bronze is something of a disappointment for a Russian team that had hoped to reach the gold medal game on home ice, while the young U.S. team that included Dylan Larkin missed out on the chance to win bronze for the third time in four years.

Frank Vatrano scored both goals for the Americans, who outshot the Russians 30-29.

Larkin finished the tournament tied for the team lead in points with nine.
