A 25-year-old Dearborn Heights man was found dead early Wednesday morning inside a burning vehicle in Ash Township after he apparently took his own life, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

A citizen called police around 4:30 a.m. after spotting a large fire in a field off West Newburg near Burns, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“A revolver was located inside the vehicle and detectives believe the man may have taken his own life,” officials said. “There is no indication another person is involved.”

The man was discovered in the driver’s seat, officials said. His identity is being withheld pending the forensic investigation.

The body was taken to the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death. The sheriff’s department is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

Anyone with information is asked to call the office’s detective bureau at (734) 240-7530.
