Suspected cocaine seized in Ambassador Bridge bust
A Windsor resident was arrested Sunday at the Ambassador Bridge after trying to smuggle into Canada about 8 kilograms (171/2 pounds) of what authorities suspect is cocaine.
The driver and his son told officials they were visiting family in Michigan, the Canada Border Services Agency said in a statement.
“During the secondary examination seven bricks of suspected cocaine, with an approximate weight of 8 kilograms, were discovered in the engine compartment of the vehicle,” the notice read.
The driver and drugs were turned over to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Other details were not released Friday.
“This brings the total seizure of cocaine over the past year to over 136 kilograms,” said Rick Comerford, regional director general for the CBSA Southern Ontario Region. “I am very proud of the great work by our officers.”
