Detroit — Detroit Cass Tech wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones is one of the top football recruits in the nation. He’s been part of championship teams on the gridiron, but Saturday afternoon, in scorching heat, Peoples-Jones added a Detroit Public School League 100-meter dash championship to his resume.

“It feels good,” Peoples-Jones said. “I worked hard for this.”

Peoples-Jones won the 100 with a time of 10.93 seconds, shaving nearly half a second of his qualifying time of 11.41 in the preliminaries. He came in just ahead of teammate Donovan Johnson, who finished with a time of 11.07 in the finals.

Peoples-Jones was also part of the winning 4x100 and 4x200 relay teams from Cass Tech.

The young man known for his speed on the football field avenged a second-place finish in last year’s PSL championships, where his time of 11.12 was bested by Detroit Southeastern’s Brandon Mitchell, who nipped the Cass Tech star at the finish line with a time of 11.08.

Peoples-Jones, who is being pursued by major football programs across the country – as well as Michigan and Michigan State – offered little new information about his recruiting process.

He confirmed that he will graduate from Cass Tech in December and enroll early in college, and said he’s still considering 10 schools right now – Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Alabama, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Florida, Stanford and USC.

When he was asked when he plans to make an announcement, Peoples-Jones said, “Not even sure yet.”
