Inkster fire chief accused of domestic violence
Canton police have charged outgoing Inkster fire chief John Adams with two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence after responding to a call at the Adams residence last Thursday, the department announced.
At about 11:17 p.m. on May 26, Canton police responded to a reported domestic disturbance at the Adams residence.
Officers on the scene determined Adams, 51, should be arrested for domestic assault.
Canton police have sent over charges on two counts of domestic violence to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office; one for the alleged incident Thursday, another “for a prior unreported incident,” the release said.
Adams was arraigned on one charge at 35th District Court on Friday, and on the other charge via video arraignment Saturday, Deputy Police Chief Debra Newsome said.
Adams was required to post bond on both counts, he said. He is due back in court for a pretrial conference on June 10, Newsome said.
Reached by phone, Adams said Tuesday was the last day of his contract as fire chief. That contract was written to end on May 31, 2016, long before the charges he now faces.
Adams was a veteran of the Westland Fire Department who went to Inkster in summer 2014 to lead the fire department.
As for the charges he now faces, Adams said “I’ve pled not guilty to both counts, and I anticipate a successful outcome.”
