Pistons open with 75-1 odds to win 2017 NBA title

The Detroit News
Landon Hathaway, 10, looks longingly at the Pistons three NBA championship trophies on display at the entrance to the Palace of Auburn Hills.

Apparently reaching the playoffs for the first time since 2009 didn’t earn the Pistons much respect.

In the way-too-early 2017 NBA title odds released by Bovada Monday, the Pistons odds to win the franchise's fourth championship are tied for 10th best at 75-1, with the Hornets, Pacers, Grizzlies, Timberwolves, Knicks, Trail Blazers and Wizards.

Despite its epic NBA Finals collapse, the Warriors are the favorite at 2-1 followed by the newly crowned champion Cavaliers (9-4) and Spurs (15-2). The Nets are the long shot at 250-1.

The Pistons finished No. 8 in the Eastern Conference with a 44-38 record — the team’s first winning season since 2007-08 — before being swept in the first round of the playoffs by the Cavaliers.

Detroit will look to build off that success with its young core of Andre Drummond, Reggie Jackson, Tobias Harris, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Marcus Morris and Stanley Johnson all set to return.
