MSU's Davis falls out of 1st round

Michigan State freshman Deyonta Davis was told he was going to be a lottery pick, and at worst, a mid first round selection. Apparently, nobody checked with NBA teams when it came to Davis because the one-and-done forward has officially fallen out of the first round. Davis was invited to the NBA Draft green room and found himself as the last guy in the room at the end of the first round. According to reports, Davis has left the green room. He will not be shaking hands with Adam Silver on stage tonight.

There's a lot of reasons that could be pointed to for Davis' decline. Despite showing off his athleticism in spurts, he didn't really wow anybody. Davis isn't a very good shooter and his game is very unpolished. There's little doubt Davis is still going to get his shot in the league, but not being taken in the first round means he's not getting a guaranteed contract. He'd be wise to take note from former Spartan Draymond Green, who fell to the second round and has become one of the best players in the league.

Davis was selected 31st overall with the first selection of the second round by Boston, who is shipping him to Memphis.

OKC sends Ibaka to Orlando for Oladipo, Sabonis

The Thunder will send Serge Ibaka to the Magic for Victor Oladipo, Ersan Ilyasova and the rights to the 11th overall pick, Domantas Sabonis.

That's the night's first big trade and there's talk of more to come.

1st round

1. Philadelphia: Ben Simmons, F, LSU--Everybody knew this was going to be the pick, but now it's official. Simmons is a versatile player, capable of getting points at the rim, dishing to teammates and grabbing rebounds. He's already got an NBA body and he'll be ready to contribute immediately. The only knock on Simmons is his jumper. He's never going to be a knock-down shooter, but he still needs to improve in this area to be a complete player.

2. Los Angeles Lakers: Brandon Ingram, F, Duke--This was the second of the two can't miss prospects in tonight's draft. Ingram isn't the complete player that Simmons in, but this dude can score in the mold of Kevin Durant. Ingram has the same body type, long and lanky, and can really shoot the rock while also getting the hole and finishing at the rim.

3. Boston: Jaylen Brown, F, California--This one is a bit of a shocker. The Celtics were in late talks to trade the third overall pick to Philadelphia or Chicago, per sources. It's possible Danny Ainge and Co. could just be drafting Brown to trade him later, but for now, he's theirs. Brown played just one year in college. He nearly attended the University of Michigan before selecting California.

4. Phoenix: Dragan Bender, F, Croatia--The first unknown of this draft, the Suns took a stretch-4 from overseas. Bender is just 18-years-old, but when you think about it, the first three picks in this draft were all guys that came out of college after just one year. Bender held his own against older players in Europe. Reports say he's a tough kid that can shoot and plays with a bit of an edge.

5. Minnesota: Kris Dunn, G, Providence--Dunn has caused a lot of drama in trade talks tonight. He's a good fit with the young core in Minnesota, but reports are that the Wolves are still considering trading the point guard if the right deal comes along. Dunn is a great defender, a good scorer and a tremendous leader. Wherever he lands at the end of the night, that team will have an immediate contributor on their hands.

6. New Orleans: Buddy Hield, G, Oklahoma--The big-time scorer that took college basketball by storm this year. Hield can shoot the lights out on any given night. He's going to put up points in the league. He'll need to pick it up on the defensive end and learn not to always settle for the jumper. He's a good fit for a franchise that needs shooting around Anthony Davis.

7. Denver: Jamal Murray, G, Kentucky--With all of the lottery picks to go through Kentucky over the last decade, Murray was the first freshman to ever score 20 points per game. This kid can really play some offense. His shot is already refined and he is ready to start from day one.

8. Sacramento: Marquese Chriss, F, Washington--Chriss is from Sacramento, but reports have his rights being traded to Phoenix. This is kid is the definition of a project. He's got an insane amount of athletic ability, but he is far from refined. If he ends up in the right situation and works hard, he should have a bright future.

9. Toronto: Jakob Poeltl, F, Utah--Poeltl is one of the safer picks in the draft. He averaged 17 points and nine rebounds per game last season. Poeltl gives the Raptors some much-needed depth and will get regular playing time. Finishing around the rim comes easy to this guy. He shot 65 percent from the field last year.

10. Milwaukee: Thon Maker, F, Canada--The biggest mystery man in this draft. There's a lot of talk that Maker could be older than his reported age of 19. On the basketball side, he's got a lot of raw athletic ability. He came to Canada from Africa, so there's a lot more questions than answers. surrounding this guy. Maker was believed by some to be a possibility for the Pistons at No.18.

11. Orlando: Domantas Sabonis, F, Gonzaga--Sabonis is going to grab rebounds in the NBA. He's an average finisher at the rim, but he's a big body that's willing to bang and play with a bit of an edge.

12. Utah: Taurean Prince, F, Baylor: Prince will be traded to Atlanta after a proposed three-way deal with Atlanta and Indiana involving Jeff Teague and George Hill is complete. Prince is a good shooter who runs the floor well. He'll be able to contribute at the next level.

13. Phoenix: Georgios Papagiannis, C, Greece: A good low-post player who can also put it in the basket from the outside. The Suns are going to have a few projects on their hands, but if these kids pan out, they could look back on this night and say that it turned things around. They now have three of the top 13 selections, assuming their trade with Sacramento for Marquese Chriss goes through.

14. Chicago: Denzel Valentine, G/F, Michigan State: The beating heart of the Spartans last season is heading to Chicago. Reports going into the draft said teams were worried about Valentine's knees. Well, apparently the Bulls weren't too concerned. Valentine does everything on the court well. He's not amazing at any one thing, but he's going to contribute in the NBA.

15. Denver: Juan Hernangomez, F, Spain: It's been said that Hernangomez is the most NBA-ready overseas player in this year's draft. He's 20-years-old and has solid intangibles to go with a decent 3-point shot.

16. Boston: Guerschon Yabusele, F, France: This guy is build almost exactly like Draymond Green at 6-for-8, 240 pounds. This guy is a banger in the post and can also shoot the ball. The Celtics are hoping he can turn out to be half as good as Green.

17. Memphis: Wade Baldwin IV, G, Vanderbilt: An explosive point guard that can really score the ball. Baldwin is a guy with long arms that could wreak havoc on the defensive end. He's a pretty good 3-point shooter but needs to get better at finishing at the rim.

18. Detroit:  Henry Ellenson, F, Marquette: Ellenson was the Big East freshman of the year this past season. Ellenson is a face-up scorer who can rebound the ball. At nearly seven feet tall and 242 pounds, Ellenson can also put the ball on the floor and muscle his way to the basket. This is a depth pick for Stan Van Gundy and Co. Ellenson isn't going to start, but he's a guy that can come off the bench and provide a bit more of a scoring punch than Aron Baynes did this past year.

19. Denver: Malik Beasley, G, FSU: This is a guy a lot of people had on the Pistons' radar. Beasley has an exceptional jumper and is an athletic guard that can really run the floor.

20. Indiana: Caris LeVert, G, Michigan: LeVert is going to the Brooklyn Nets after a trade is completed for Thaddeus Young. This could end up being an absolute steal for the Nets if LeVert can stay healthy. Before his issues over the last two seasons in Ann Arbor, LeVert has shown he can be a guy that can score from anywhere on the court. LeVert can drive and finish at the rim, but he also has range. A lot of teams could regret passing on LeVert if he lives up to his enormous potential.

21. Atlanta: DeAndre Bembry, F, St. Joseph's: A versatile player than can finish around the rim and defend. He's going to need to work on his jumper if he's going to last long in the league for more than four to five years.

22. Charlotte: Malachi Richardson, G, Syracuse: This pick is going to Sacramento following the completion of the trade for Marco Belinelli. Richardson is a knock-down shooter from the outside. He'll provide some much-needed scoring punch to Kings lineup that relies so heavily on DeMarcus Cousins.

23. Boston: Ante Zizic, C, Croatia: A low-post player that excels in the pick-and-roll.

24. Philadelphia: Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot, F, France: This is going to be a draft-and-stash pick. Because of their business practices over the years and not being able to complete a trade earlier in the draft, the 76ers have too many assets to have guys they can put on their active roster.

25. Los Angeles Clippers: Brice Johnson, F, North Carolina: An athletic forward from the national champions. Brice Johnson is an athletic guy who can score in the post and grab rebounds. This is a high-motor player that can finish on the break.

26. Philadelphia: Furkan Korkmaz, To further drive home the point of the 76ers having way too many assets and nothing to do with them, the NBA's most embarrassing franchise took another draft-and-stash pick. At this point, it's almost not fair to the guys that Philadelphia is taking, as it seems they are destined to never get a real shot at the NBA.

27. Toronto: Pascal Siakam, F, New Mexico State: An incredibly long wingspan, this is a guy who can rebound and run the floor.

28. Phoenix: Skal Labissiere, F, Kentucky: This pick was made of Sacramento. One of the guys left back in the green room with MSU's Deyonta Davis, Labissiere is the better shooter of the two. Another freshman, Labissiere was the second overall rated player coming out of high school just a year ago.

29. San Antonio: Dejounte Murray, G, Washington: A guard that can score and dish. Murray will have a chance to learn behind Tony Parker, and with his size and talent, he'll have a chance to stake his claim as the Parker's successor.

30. Golden State: Damian Jones, C, Vanderbilt: The Warriors need to get bigger, so taking a big body at the end of the first round is a no-brainer. Tristan Thompson dominated Golden State in the paint during the NBA Finals. Jones is a guy that can run the floor, but he's going to have to get tougher inside in order to stick at the next level.

2nd round

31. Boston: Deyonta Davis, F, Michigan State: The wait is finally over for Deyonta Davis, whose rights are being shipped to Memphis with the 35th overall pick in exchange for a first round pick in 2019.

32. Los Angeles Lakers: Ivica Zubac, C, Croatia

33. Los Angeles Clippers: Cheick Diallo, F, Kansas: This pick is heading to New Orleans for the 39th & 40th overall selections.

34. Phoenix: Tyler Ulis, PG, Kentucky: One of the best player in the country last year. Tyler Ulis is just 5-foot-10, but he's a pure point guard that can dish the ball and score it with ease. Despite his size, he was a very good defender at the college level.

35. Boston: Rade Zagorac, F, Serbia

36. Milwaukee: Malcolm Brogdon, F, Virginia

37. Houston: Chinanu Onaku, C, Louisville

38. Milwaukee: Patrick McCaw, SG, UNLV: Sources have this pick being shipped to Golden State for cash considerations.

39. New Orleans: David Michineau, G, France: The rights to this pick are heading to the Clippers.

40. New Orleans: Diamond Stone, C, Maryland: Rights also being traded to the Clippers.

41. Orlando: Stephen Zimmerman, C, UNLV

42. Utah: Isaiah Whitehead, G, Seton Hall: Whitehead's rights are being traded to Brooklyn.

43. Houston: Zhou Qi, F, China

44. Atlanta: Isaia Cordinier, G, Frances

45. Boston: Demetrius Jackson, G, Notre Dame: A guy the Pistons were considering at 18, Jackson could be a solid back up point guard at the NBA level. Stan Van Gundy would have been ecstatic to get him at No.49.

46. Dallas: A.J. Hammons, C, Purdue

47. Orlando: Jake Layman, F, Maryland

48: Chicago: Paul Zipser, F, Germany

49: Detroit: Michael Gbinije, G, Syracuse: It's said that Gbinije does a lot of things well, but isn't spectacular in any one area. One could certainly find worse things to say about other second round picks. This guy can handle the ball, but he's more likely to fit into the two-guard or small forward spot. He's a good shooter and played four years of college ball, which is a plus and bodes well for his chances to make the team.

50. Indiana: Georges Niang, F, Iowa State

51. Boston: Ben Bentil, F, Providence

52. Utah: Joel Bolomboy, F, Weber State

53. Denver: Petr Cornelie, F, France

54. Atlanta: Kay Felder, G, Oakland: The wait was a long one, but the Golden Grizzlies junior scoring machine is heading to the league. Felder's rights are reportedly being traded to Cleveland.

55. Brooklyn: Marcus Paige, G, North Carolina: Paige's rights are being traded to Utah

56. Denver: Daniel Hamilton, F, UConn

57. Memphis: Wang Zhelin, C, China

58. Boston: Abdel Nader, F, Iowa State

59. Sacramento: Isaiah Cousins, G, Oklahoma

60. Utah: Ty Wallace, G, California

Simmons and Ingram headline 2016 draft

Everybody knows who the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Lakers are going to take with the first two picks of the NBA Draft tonight.

The 76ers have already told LSU forward Ben Simmons that they will take him with the top selection. Simmons is an all-everything player that comes along just once in a generation. Many have compared him to LeBron James.

Brandon Ingram, the lanky, sharpshooting forward from Duke, is almost assuredly heading to hollywood with the second overall pick.

After that is when things get fun.

The Boston Celtics hold the third pick in the draft, but the 76ers are said to be offering some of their young pieces to obtain that selection.

The Pistons are in the market for a backup point guard, but they will most likely go with the best player available approach with the 18th pick. MSU standout Denzel Valentine could be an intriguing fit for Stan Van Gundy's team, but he will likely be taken before the Pistons turn on the clock.

The Pistons also hold the 49th pick of the draft.

Other local collegiate stars to be on the lookout for are Michigan's Caris LeVert and Oakland's Kay Felder.

LeVert has battled injuries over the last two seasons, otherwise he'd almost assuredly be a lottery pick. Felder is a scoring machine, but teams have concerns over his size.
