Wings re-sign Miller to one-year, $1.025M deal
Detroit — The Red Wings have re-signed forward Drew Miller to a one-year, $1.025 million contract.
Miller, 32, would have been an unrestricted free agent Friday.
One of the best penalty killers in the game, and a reliable defensive forward, Miller’s defensive skills were missed by the Red Wings the second half of the season.
Knee surgery ended Miller’s season in January — after he sustained a broken jaw earlier in the season — which limited to Miller to 28 games this season with two points (one goal, one assist), with a minus-5 rating and averaging just under 13 minutes of ice time.
The former Michigan State star has 100 points (51 goals, 49 assists) in 449 games with the Red Wings since joining the team in 2009-10.
Miller has played 516 career games with the Red Wings, Tampa Bay and Anahiem.
By signing Miller, the Red Wings have one more potential unrestricted free agent they’d like to re-sign before Friday — forward Darren Helm.
Goalie Petr Mrazek, defenseman Danny DeKeyser and forward Teemu Pulkkinen are restricted free agents that will be signed during the course of the summer.
