Miguel Cabrera homered for the second straight day as the Tigers gave left-hander Daniel Norris his first win of the year in a 10-3 triumph Wednesday against Miami.

The Tigers swept the two-game series.

Detroit scored four runs in the opening inning against Marlins right-hander Tom Koehler.

Norris struck out a career-high eight batters in five innings. He gave up eight hits and two earned runs.

Cabrera finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Steven Moya and Jarrod Saltalamacchia (3-for-3) hit back-to-back solo homers in the fifth inning off Marlins reliever Dustin McGowan.

The Tigers (40-38) begin a four-game series Thursday in Tampa Bay and are 1.5 games out of a wild card spot.

Bot 8: Maybin, Miggy get RBI hits

Cameron Maybin continues to produce at Comerica Park, this time with an RBI double off Marlins reliever Jo-Jo Reyes to score Ian Kinsler (walk).

Miguel Cabrera (3-for-4, three RBIs) followed with an RBI single.

It’s 10-3 Tigers after eight innings.

Maybin is hitting .385 at Comerica Park (42-for-109).

Top 8: Ichiro inches toward 3,000 hits

Ichiro Suzuki and Martin Prado (4-for-5) singled with two outs off Tigers reliever Kyle Ryan, but he ended the inning by striking out Christian Yelich.

The Tigers lead 8-3 entering the bottom of the eighth.

Suzuki, who is 42-years-old, is now 12 hits away from the 3,000-hit milestone. He now has 2,988 hits to pass Washington Senators legend Sam Rice (1915-1933) for 30th place on the all-time MLB hit list.

Yelich, who is batting .314, is 2-for-5 today with three strikeouts. He's left five men on base.

The Marlins have left 24 on base in the two-game series.

Bot 7: Salty doubles, 3-for-3

Jarrod Saltalamacchia (3-for-3) doubled to left field with two outs in the seventh inning off Marlins left-handed reliever Jo-Jo Reyes.

Jose Iglesias lined out to left field to end the inning.

It’s 8-3 Tigers after seven innings.

Saltalamacchia has five doubles this year.

Top 7: Ryan ends inning with strikeout

Chris Johnson hit an RBI single off Tigers reliever Alex Wilson to cut the Detroit lead to 8-3 in the top of the seventh.

Wilson was pulled for left-hander Kyle Ryan, who ended the inning by striking out Derek Dietrich.

Johnson is 2-for-4 and the Marlins have double-digit hits (12) for the second straight day.

Martin Prado (3-for-4) and Marcell Ozuna each hit a single off Wilson in the seventh.

Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers celebrates his solo home run during the fourth inning.

Bot 6: Quick inning for Detroit

Marlins reliever Nick Wittgren entered the game in the bottom of the sixth and earned a 1-2-3 inning.

Miguel Cabrera lined out. Victor Martinez and Nick Castellanos both struck out.

The Tigers lead 8-2 after six innings.

Top 6: Alex Wilson enters, Norris pulled

Tigers right-handed reliever Alex Wilson entered the game in the top of the sixth inning and threw a scoreless frame.

The Tigers lead 8-2.

Derek Dietrich led off the inning with a single. But Wilson struck out Adeiny Hechavarria and Jeff Mathis, then ended the inning by retiring Ichiro Suzuki.

Tigers starter Daniel Norris struck out a career-high eight batters and gave up two earned runs in five innings.

Norris walked one and gave up eight hits on 100 pitches.

Bot 5: Moya, Salty hit back-to-back HRs

Steven Moya and Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit back-to-back solo homers in the fifth inning off Marlins reliever Dustin McGowan.

It's 8-2 Tigers after five innings.

The Tigers' 27 home runs in interleague play is the most in the majors.

McGowan has given up three home runs today.

Top 5: Norris reaches 100 pitches

Tigers left-hander Daniel Norris gave up a leadoff single to the Marlins’ Christian Yelich but exited the fifth inning without giving up a run.

It’s 6-2 Tigers after the top of the fifth.

Norris has a career-high eight strikeouts. He’s given up eight hits and two earned runs to go along with one walk.

Norris has thrown 100 pitches.

Bot 4: Miggy homers for 2nd straight day

Miguel Cabrera belted a solo home run off Marlins reliever Dustin McGowan to give the Tigers a 6-2 lead in the fourth.

Cabrera is 2-for-2 with two RBIs today. On Tuesday, he crushed a three-run homer in the fifth inning to ignite a seven-run outburst.

Cabrera now has 426 career homers. He is tied with Chicago Cubs legend Billy Williams (1959-1974) for 48th place on the all-time homers list.

In the fourth, Victor Martinez (2-for-3, two RBIs) hit a one-out single, but Nick Castellanos struck out and Justin Upton grounded out.

Cabrera has 18 homers this season, which is tied for ninth in the American League.

Top 4: Norris career-high 8 K's

Tigers left-hander Daniel Norris has reached a career-high with eight strikeouts.

The Tigers lead 5-2 after the top of the fourth.

Norris has thrown 88 pitches.

In the fourth, he issued a one-out single to Jeff Mathis, but got out of the inning with back-to-back grounders from Ichiro Suzuki and Martin Prado.

Bot 3: Salty singles in quiet inning

Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a one-out single, but that was the lone hit of the inning for the Tigers.

It’s 5-2 Detroit after three innings.

Marlins right-handed starter Tom Koehler has thrown 90 pitches through three innings. He’s given up eight hits and one walk and has struck out two.

Top 3: Norris 7 K's, but pitch count high

Tigers left-handed starter Daniel Norris has featured an up-and-down trend today — just like his start six days ago.

It’s 5-2 Tigers after the top of the third.

The good news: Norris has seven strikeouts through three innings, tying a career-high.

The bad news: He’s given up six hits and has already thrown 76 pitches.

Norris, who gave up two runs in the second inning today, came back in the third with two strikeouts. The Marlins’ Chris Johnson delivered a two-out single, but Norris fanned Derek Dietrich to end the inning.

In his first start against Seattle, Norris had five strikeouts and one walk in five innings — but gave up three solo homers.

Bot 2: Cabrera extends lead

Miguel Cabrera's RBI single extends the Tigers' lead to 5-2 in the bottom of the second.

The Tigers have seven hits against Marlins right-handed starter Tom Koehler, who had a 2.92 ERA in his past 10 starts entering today.

Ian Kinsler (2-for-2) doubled to lead off the inning. He alertly tagged and advanced to third base on Cameron Maybin's pop out into foul territory near first base.

Kinsler is 8-for-17 against Miami this year and Cabrera has hit safely in four straight games.

Koehler has thrown 72 pitches through two innings.

Top 2: Marlins score twice in 2nd

And the Tigers' lead has already been cut in half.

Tigers left-hander Daniel Norris gave up two runs in the top of the second: Adeiny Hechavarria belted an RBI triple and Ichiro Suzuki followed with an RBI single.

Suzuki, who is 42-years-old, is now 13 hits away from the 3,000-hit milestone. He’s now tied with Washington Senators legend Sam Rice (1915-1933) for 30th place on the all-time MLB hit list (2,987).

Norris needed 32 pitches to escape the second inning. He has four strikeouts and one walk.

Bot 1: Four-run inning for Detroit

Nine Tigers came to the plate in a four-run first inning against Marlins right-hander Tom Koehler (4.07 ERA), whose 30th birthday is today.

Victor Martinez hit a two-RBI single, and both Justin Upton and Jarrod Saltalamacchia delivered an RBI as six straight Tigers reached base.

Here's how it started: Ian Kinsler and Cameron Maybin hit back-to-back singles and Miguel Cabrera was hit by a pitch. Martinez, batting left-handed, singled off the glove of Marlins first baseman Chris Johnson — who may have been screened by Cabrera’s base running. That made it 2-0.

Koehler walked Nick Castellanos to load the bases for Justin Upton, who singled to make it 3-0.

Martinez is now hitting .571 (20-for-35) in 13 interleague games this season.

Maybin now has a hit in five straight games.

Saltalamacchia hit a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 4-0.

Koehler threw 46 pitches in the inning.

Top 1: Norris 3 K's in tough inning

Tigers left-handed starter Daniel Norris endured mild trouble in the first inning — but exited with three strikeouts.

The Marlins’ Martin Prado and Christian Yelich hit back-to-back singles with one out. Norris then fell behind 3-1 to Marcell Ozuna, but escaped with a strikeout, and then followed by striking out Giancarlo Stanton to end the inning.

Norris struck out Ichiro Suzuki to start the game.

Suzuki, who is 42-years-old, is 14 hits away from the 3,000-hit milestone. He is one hit away from tying Washington Senators legend Sam Rice (1915-1933) for 30th place on the all-time MLB hit list (2,987).

On Tuesday, the Marlins had 16 hits — but 12 men left on base.

Norris seeks first win

Tigers left-handed starter Daniel Norris seeks his first win in his second start of the year.

Six days ago, Norris gave up three earned runs — all on solo homers — in five innings on the mound against Seattle. He struck out five and walked none.

In the top of the first, he will face the Marlins’ Ichiro Suzuki (.340), Martin Prado (.308) and Christian Yelich (.313).

Here are the Tigers' notable lineup changes today: Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting at catcher and Steven Moya is in right field.

How to watch: Tigers vs. Marlins

The Tigers look to sweep their two-game series with the Marlins, which wraps up Wednesday at Comerica Park.

A seven-run fifth highlighted by Jose Iglesias, MiguelCabrera and Nick Castellanos' homers provided enough run support for starter Mike Pelfrey’s second win (2-7) in a 7-5 victory Tuesday. Lynn Henning writes the Tigers haven’t given up on the right-hander whose struggles led him to be dispatched to the bullpen.

In homering against the Marlins, Cabrera became just the 50th player in baseball history to homer against every franchise that was in the big leagues during his career.

Meanwhile, the ever-humble Barry Bonds, who is Marlins hitting coach, said Cabrera is “close … but he’s not a better hitter than me, no.”

Tigers' starter Daniel Norris said he's beginning to feel comfortable after bouncing back from a spring training back ailment and offseason thyroid cancer surgery.
