Nebraska guard Andrew White may transfer to Spartans

East Lansing – Michigan State has a scholarship available for the upcoming 2016-17 season, and it will be hosting an accomplished scorer this weekend, according to a report from CBSsports.com.

Jon Rothstein posted on Twitter Friday that Andrew White III, a graduate transfer from Nebraska, said he will be visiting Michigan State this weekend.

White, a 6-foot-6 guard, averaged 16.6 points and 5.9 rebounds a game last season for Nebraska as a redshirt junior. He declared for the NBA Draft, but after several individual workouts, White withdrew his name from the draft.

He never officially returned to Nebraska and requested a release from his scholarship in late June. Coach Tim Miles granted the release.

“I spoke with Andrew late last evening in which he asked me how he can proceed with a release from Nebraska," Miles said in a statement at the time.

"There have been discussions with Andrew and his father about Andrew's place in our program for months and this is his decision. Even though I am extremely disappointed, he will be given a complete release as the logistics are handled this week. We will move on. I am truly excited about our team and next season.”

White was a four-star prospect who played his first two seasons at Kansas before transferring to Nebraska. If he were to come to Michigan State, he’d be joining a crowded rotation that includes the likes of senior Eron Harris, sophomore Matt McQuaid and freshmen Miles Bridges and Joshua Langford.

White has also visited Syracuse and reports indicate he also has interest in Louisville, Cincinnati and VCU.
