Report: Lions nearing deal with Anquan Boldin

In the days leading up to the opening of training camp, the Lions reportedly are adding a big name.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the team is close to an agreement on a one-year deal with wide receiver Anquan Boldin.

A representative for Boldin declined comment when reached by The Detroit News.

The Lions worked out Boldin last month.

A 13-year veteran, the highly productive wideout has amassed 1,009 receptions, 13,195 yards and 74 TD during his career. He's one of just 13 receivers in league history to top the 1,000-reception plateau.

At the age of 35, Boldin still led the San Francisco 49ers in receptions (69), receiving yards (789) and touchdowns (four) last season.

The move would reunite Boldin with Lions coach Jim Caldwell, who served as the receiver's offensive coordinator in Baltimore during the team's Super Bowl championship season in 2012-13.  Boldin had 380 yards and four touchdowns during the Ravens' playoff run.

Boldin gives Detroit's receiving corps another weapon as the team seeks to replace the production lost with All-Pro Calvin Johnson's retirement.

The new addition joins a talented group of receivers, led by Golden Tate and prized free-agent acquisition Marvin Jones. Boldin can play both inside and outside and operated primarily out of the slot for the 49ers in 2015.

Additionally, 2014 draft pick TJ Jones will be competing for reps, along with veterans Jeremy Kerley and Andre Roberts, who both signed one-year contracts with Detroit this offseason.

Veterans are scheduled to report to training camp Thursday. The team will hold its first practice, at its Allen Park facility, the following afternoon.
