Michigan State Police officials are investigating the death of a woman whose body was found in her home in Bruce Township this week.

Metro North Post troopers were called to the 71000 block of Van Dyke at about 8:15 p.m. Monday on a report of a fire with a female victim, the agency said in a statement.

A preliminary investigation found that the man who owns the rental property went there with his son to check on what they thought was an air conditioning problem, according to the release. But once inside they spotted the resident’s body as well as fire damage.

The victim is believed to be in her late 40s, state police said. Detectives are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.

The Metro North Post, Special Investigation Section and the MSP Fire Marshal Division are investigating.

Anyone who has information is asked to call 855-MICH-TIP.
