Two suspects are in custody after police say they committed a carjacking on the city’s east side, then attempted to outrun authorities.

On Friday morning, a white Dodge mini-van pulled up alongside of another minivan in a drive-thru in the area of Harper and Outer Drive, and while the vehicle was trapped, one of the suspects forced the driver out of her car at gun point, according to a statement from the Michigan State Police.

State troopers and Detroit police located the stolen vehicle about 2:10 a.m. A car chase with the suspects and police ensued, eventually ending in the suspects’ vehicle crashing into a residential fence on Holcomb road near Sylvester, state police said.

Police searched the vehicle and found numerous shotgun shells, according to the statement.

Police say both suspects tried to escape on foot and resisted arrest, and both were taken into custody after a Taser deployment and OC/CS spray was used.

The suspects are being held at the Detroit Detention Center pending prosecutor review.
