Detroit Lions' Color Rush uniform release on hold

Allen Park — Detroit Lions fans eagerly awaiting the unveiling of the team’s alternative Color Rush uniforms will have to keeping waiting.

According to team president Rod Wood, the Lions will roll out the new look in concert with the rest of the league and that isn’t expected to happen for at least another month.

“I think it’s going to be close to the beginning of the regular season,” Wood said before the team’s first training camp practice on Friday. “That’s what they’re talking about.”

Wood first hinted at new uniforms in early February and initially projected the alternatives would be released around the time the league announced its regular season schedule in April. That projected announcement has since been delayed multiple times, while a number of false reports have gone viral in the meantime.

The Lions haven’t worn a third version of the uniform since 2010, a throwback look for the team’s Thanksgiving contest that season.  Detroit hasn’t sported a true alternative since 2007 when they donned black jerseys.
