Live Tigers blog: Tigers 8-game win streak snapped

FINAL: WHITE SOX 6, TIGERS 3
Jordan Zimmerman made his return and it didn't go the way he or the Tigers would've hoped. Zimmerman spotted Chicago six runs in the first two innings and he couldn't make it out of the second after being pulled having thrown just 53 pitches.
The Tigers bullpen did its best to keep the team in the game, tossing 7.1 innings of scoreless baseball, but the offense just wasn't up to the challenge today.
In the ninth, David Robertson came on to try and get the save for the White Sox. Justin Upton stroked a leadoff single to left field but Tyler Collins followed with a ground ball double play to quash any momentum the Tigers might have thought they had. Jarrod Saltalamacchia popped out to end the game.
Jose Quintana was solid for Chicago today, tossing 7.1 innings. Quintana gave up three runs on eight hits, walked one and struck out three.
Top 9th: White Sox 6, Tigers 3
Mark Lowe came back out for the ninth inning and his second frame of work, and despite giving up a leadoff single to Adam Eaton, Lowe got out of the inning unscathed.
Jose Abreu flew out to center field and Jarrod Saltalamacchia gunned down Eaton as he tried to steal second base. Justin Morneau grounded out to second to end the inning.
Assuming there no extra innings, that wraps up the day for the Tigers bullpen. They didn't give up a single run over 7.1 innings of work.

Miguel Cabrera golfed his 25th home run of the season to bring the Tigers a little closer.
That was the end of the road for Jose Quintana, who was pulled in favor of Nate Jones out of the bullpen. Jones got Nick Castellanos to line out to right field and J.D. Martinez to strike out to end the inning.
Top 8th: White Sox 6, Tigers 2
Mark Lowe came out for the eighth inning and despite issuing a two-out walk to Tyler Saladino, Lowe got out of the inning with ease.
Bottom 7th: White Sox 6, Tigers 2
J.D. Martinez notched a leadoff single to right field and Justin Upton followed suit to put runners on the corners for the Tigers to start the seventh. Tyler Collins joined in on the fun, dropping a bloop single into center field to score Martinez and cut the Sox lead to 6-2.
With two men on and nobody out, however, the Tigers couldn't get any more across the plate. Jarrod Saltalamacchia popped out, Andrew Romine lined out to center and Ian Kinsler flew out to center to end the inning.
Top 7th: White Sox 6, Tigers 1
Kyle Ryan came back out for his third inning of work and he has definitely found his groove, setting the White Sox down in order for the second consecutive inning.
Justin Morneau struck out looking, Todd Frazier grounded out to third and Avisail Garcia fouled out to end the frame.
The Tigers bullpen hasn't given up a run in 5.1 innings of work.
Bottom 6th: White Sox 6, Tigers 1
Jose Quintana is in a rhythm right now and the Tigers are struggling to get anything going offensively against the crafty left-handed pitcher.
Jose Iglesias flew out to shallow right field, Miguel Cabrera grounded out to second and Nick Castellanos flew out to right field to end the inning.
Quintana has retired 13 of the last 14 hitters he's faced.
Top 6th: White Sox 6, Tigers 1
Kyle Ryan came out for his second inning of work and set Chicago down in order.
Melky Cabrera grounded out to shortstop, Adam Eaton flew out to center field and Jose Abreu did the same.
The bullpen has done a real nice job in relief of Jordan Zimmerman. The offense still needs to figure out Jose Quintana.
Bottom 5th: White Sox 6, Tigers 1
Jarrod Saltalamacchia notched a one-out single through the right side of the infield but Andrew Romine grounded into a fielder's choice and Ian Kinsler struck out looking to end the frame.
Tyler Collins grounded out to shortstop to leadoff the inning.
Jose Quintana has three strikeouts and he's quietly mowing down Tigers hitters left and right. He's given up just four hits and has thrown just 57 pitches.
Top 5th: White Sox 6, Tigers 1
After a solid two-plus innings of work from Alex Wilson, Kyle Ryan got the call out of the Tigers bullpen for the fifth inning. Ryan gave up a two-out single to Tyler Saladino but was able to get Carlos Sanchez to ground out to shortstop to end the frame.

Top 3rd: White Sox 6, Tigers 1
Omar Narvaez drew a one-out walk and Carlos Sanchez notched a two-out single through the middle of the diamond to give the White Sox another chance to add to their lead. Fortunately for the Tigers, reliever Alex Wilson was able to get Melky Cabrera to pop out to second to end the threat.
Wilson has the ability to pitch four or five innings. He's done it before. If he can keep Chicago where they are, the Tigers should have every opportunity to cut into this lead.
Bottom 2nd: White Sox 6, Tigers 1
Jarrod Saltalamacchia drew a two-out walk but Andrew Romine lined out to second base to end the inning.
Justin Upton popped out and Tyler Collins grounded out to second to start the inning.
Top 2nd: White Sox 6, Tigers 1
While the Tigers have won the first two games of the series, Avisail Garcia has certainly been raking against his former team, drilling his third home run of the series well over the wall in center field to give Chicago a 2-1 lead.
Omar Narvaez kept things going with a single to left field and Tyler Saladino drew a walk against a struggling Jordan Zimmerman, who received a visit from half the Tigers dugout to make sure he wasn't hurting.
After Carlos Sanchez fouled out to Jarrod Saltalamacchia, who made a great diving catch behind the plate, Melky Cabrera singled home another run for Chicago to make it 3-1. With runners on the corners, Adam Eaton flew out to right field but that was enough to score Saladino, who slid around the tag from Saltalamacchia.
That's when things got much, much worse for Zimmerman, as Jose Abreu drilled a two-run home run to left field to give Chicago a 6-1 lead. After a two-out double from Justin Morneau, Zimmerman was taken out of the game having thrown just 53 pitches. Alex Wilson came in and got Todd Frazier to fly out to right field to end the inning.

After Jose Iglesias grounded out, Miguel Cabrera dropped a one-out bloop single into right field off of Sox starter Jose Quintana. Nick Castellanos appeared to ground into an inning-ending double play, but the throw to first base was way off line and extended the Tigers inning. J.D. Martinez doubled to left field but Castellanos was thrown out at home plate to end the inning.
Top 1st: White Sox 1, Tigers
Jordan Zimmerman didn't get off to the best start, loading the bases with one out in the first inning, but he limited the damage against the meat of the White Sox order.
Zimmerman hit Tim Anderson in the hand to leadoff the game, and after getting Melky Cabrera to pop out, Adam Eaton stroked a one-out single to right field to put two men on for Chicago in the early going. Zimmerman walked Jose Abreu after a 10-pitch battle to load the bases for Justin Morneau, who was able to stick his bat out and hit a fly ball to right field to score the game's first run. With two men on, Zimmerman got Todd Frazier to ground out back to the mound to end the inning.
Zimmerman's pitch count is in rough shape after the first frame at 28. The Tigers reportedly don't want to let their starter throw much more than 90 pitches today.
