Graham Glasgow in a boot, Lions decline comment

Allen Park — The Detroit Lions conducted a light practice on Saturday, but rookie offensive lineman Graham Glasgow was unable to participate. He stood on the sideline with a boot on his left foot.

Asked about Glasgow's status, Lions coach Jim Caldwell declined comment.

"We don’t talk about injuries," Caldwell said. "Whenever we have to file an injury report, we’ll refer to that injury report."

Caldwell also declined to respond to a hypothetical question about how much ground Glasgow could lose in the competition to be the team's starting center if he is required to miss extended time.

Glasgow played just 11 snaps in the team's second exhibition contest Thursday against Cincinnati. He entered the game in the second quarter, as part of the second-unit offensive line, but played just one series, plus the kneel down a the end of the half. He was replaced by Gabe Ikard to start the third quarter.

There wasn't an obvious moment from the game where the injury occurred.

A third-round draft pick out of the University of Michigan, Glasgow has been trailing incumbent Travis Swanson for the center job all training camp.

Last week, Caldwell said Glasgow's primary competition, at this stage, isn't Swanson.

“I think the big thing that he’s doing right now is he’s competing with himself first to make certain he understands everything that we’re doing, how we get it done,” Caldwell said. “That’s a chore unto itself. Then I think they get to the point where now they’ve got a good grasp of things so they can move along and they can really get in there and fight and compete.”
