A 62-year-old motorcyclist died early Wednesday morning in a Macomb Township crash, according to the county sheriff’s office.

John Theodore Stoll of Shelby Township was traveling around 6:30 a.m. along eastbound 24 Mile through the intersection at Hayes, Sheriff’s Anthony Wickersham said in a statement. He was struck by a Dodge Caliber coming westbound on 24 Mile, as its driver attempted to turn onto southbound Hayes.

The Caliber was driven by a 43-year-old Macomb Township woman, Wickersham said. It was not immediately clear if she was injured.

“The motorcyclist received severe injuries ... and he was immediately transported to Henry Ford Macomb (Hospital),” Wickersham said. “He was pronounced dead at the hospital. The name of the decedent is not being released pending the notification of next-of-kin.”

The intersection remained closed Wednesday morning as sheriff’s officials investigated the incident.
