Suspended Ahmir Mitchell leaves UM football program

Ann Arbor – On the heels of Michigan losing three recruiting commitments the first two days of the week, it appears freshman receiver Ahmir Mitchell is on his way out.

Mitchell, a four-star recruit from New Jersey and one of two freshmen (Shelton Johnson the other) who did not appear in the team photo and were suspended, according to Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, posted Wednesday on Twitter what appears to be a farewell to the program.

He said he has received loved from “the fans, community and the people of Michigan,” and has established bonds.

“I love what U of M had to offer me, but what is best for me and my family comes first,” he wrote. “Therefore I will like to announce that I am hereby reopening my recruiting to all Universities and football programs.”

Earlier this week, it appeared, kicker Andrew David has transferred to TCU, based on a Tweet from teammate Jon Runyan Jr. Also, David’s private Twitter and Instagram pages indicated he is now playing for TCU football.

On Monday and Tuesday, three, four-star recruits decommitted from Michigan.

Defensive tackle Aubrey Solomon of Georgia, a 2017 commit, and defensive end/tight end Leonard Taylor a 2018 commit from Springfield, Ohio, made their announcements on Monday, and offensive lineman Jalil Irvin, also rated four stars out of Georgia, hopped on the de-commit bandwagon on Tuesday.
