Butt, Wormley named Wolverines' captains
Seniors Jake Butt and Chris Wormley are Michigan’s captains this season.
The Wolverines voted on captains Friday night, and Wormley shared the news on his Twitter account.
“It’s an honor to represent @UMichFootball with @JBooty_88 as Co-captains for the team this year! #GoBlue," Wormley tweeted.
Wormley is a defensive lineman and Butt a tight end, and both are expected to make significant contributions this fall. Both have talked this preseason about being leaders.
Wormley, a third-team All-Big Ten selection (coaches) last year, has appeared in 29 games, starting 17.
Butt, a second-team Associated Press All-American in 2015, opted to return to Michigan this season rather than enter the NFL draft. He wrote on Twitter that being elected as a captain is "truly the highest honor I have received (and probably ever will receive) in my life."
"I can't think of a better player and person to be selected with than Chris Wormley!" Butt tweeted. "I'm extremely honored and humbled to represent this team and the University of Michigan. GO BLUE!"
