The Detroit Lions have made a trade, sending wide receiver Jeremy Kerley to the San Francisco 49ers for offensive lineman Brandon Thomas, according to ESPN.

Thomas, a third-round pick for the 49ers in 2014, has never appeared in a regular-season game. The 6-foot-3, 317-pounder started 26 consecutive games at left tackle for Clemson prior to being drafted. He can also play guard.

He gives the Lions much-needed depth heading into the fourth preseason contest. The team is dealing with a number of offensive line injuries with Michael Ola, Corey Robinson and Geoff Schwartz all being held out of action during the team’s third exhibition game against Baltimore.

Kerley is shipped out after falling short for his bid for a roster spot in Detroit. The slot receiver and return man lost ground to Andre Roberts and TJ Jones in recent weeks and didn’t play an offensive snap against the Ravens Saturday night.
