Ann Arbor – Michigan receiver Jehu Chesson has been practicing with no restrictions and is eager to get the season started.

Chesson, voted the Wolverines’ team MVP last season, suffered a torn posterior cruciate knee ligament in the bowl game and missed spring practice. He recovered in time for the beginning of camp on Aug. 8.

Michigan opens the season Saturday against Hawaii at Michigan Stadium.

“Hit the game running Aug. 8. No setbacks either,” Chesson said Tuesday. “I’m ready to roll.”

Considered one of the fastest players on the team, Chesson said there has been no dropoff.

“I still feel fast,” he said. “I think I look fast, too. We’ll see on Saturday.”

Chesson, who plans to play in the return game, as well, said the rehabilitation process remains a constant, although he has recovered. It essentially has become maintenance.

“It’s tricky, right, because it’s never really over because you have to constantly keep treating, constantly keep getting in the ice tub, constantly keep making sure everything is right,” Chesson said, adding he suffered a minor ankle injury at Rutgers two years ago and still does rehab on that injury.

“It’s not anything (like) you’ve arrived, it’s just a process. When you go through the rehabilitation process you feel more and more confident every single day. That’s where I’m really gaining momentum and I get to showcase what I’ve been working on.”
