Allen Park — The Packers ruled out two more defensive starters on Saturday, announcing linebacker Clay Matthews and safety Morgan Burnett will sit the team’s Week 3 game against the Lions.

The pair join cornerback Sam Shields, who was ruled out Friday with lingering concussion symptoms.

Matthews, the superb rush linebacker and six-time Pro Bowler, hasn’t missed a game since the 2013 season, but wasn’t able to shake an ankle injury suffered last week against the Vikings.

The Lions also ruled out three additional players for the game. Linebackers DeAndre Levy (quad) and Antwione Williams (hamstring) and cornerback Adairius Barnes (ankle) will be sidelined for the NFC North showdown.

Pro Bowl defensive end Ziggy Ansah (ankle) was ruled out Friday.

Those decisions leave Detroit with three healthy linebackers, Tahir Whitehead, Kyle Van Noy and Thurston Armbrister. Defensive end Brandon Copeland is expected to continue to help out with the group while the team battles depth issues.

Lions' inability to seal deal remains Achilles' heel
