Ferndale’s Daily Dinette to close, Pop’s expands

The Daily Dinette in Ferndale, located in the back of Pop’s for Italian, closed this week.

Owner Brian Kramer says he and his team are repurposing the space to expand Pop’s, an Italian restaurant and wine bar. Birmingham’s Ron & Roman will redesign the area for private dining, larger reservations and wine events and classes.

“We are getting so much recognition for our unique wine program in the wine industry, that we are hoping to cultivate a following of wine enthusiasts,” said VP of Operations Beth Hussey, adding that they do a similar program with craft beer at One-Eyed Betty’s, also part of the Kramer Restaurant Group.

“In addition to the demand for more space to prep the fresh pasta and pizza,” said Brian Kramer in a press release issued Monday. “Our phones never stop ringing for reservations and off-premise catering, so we have decided to create a room where families and friends can share special occasions.”

Kramer said he’d like to bring in chefs from Italy for pop-up dinners in the renovated space.

Pop’s for Italian and Daily Dinette opened last winter. Over the summer it was announced that Daily Dinette would be shrinking to allow Pop’s to expand, but Monday’s news takes that a step further and eliminates the diner altogether.

The release stated that there are plans to revive the Daily Dinette’s concept — doughnuts, other breakfast food and late-night snacks — in the future, but no details were given.

This change means that Pop’s, 280 W. Nine Mile, will now take reservations for any size group. Call (248) 268-4806.
