Pontiac man faces charges in alleged bomb threat against judge, court

Pontiac — A Pontiac man was in jail Wednesday facing charges of allegedly making threats to blow up the Oakland Circuit Courthouse and to kill Judge Lisa Gorcyca.

Anthony Jeffrey Brodie was arrested in Ann Arbor near his job Wednesday by the U.S. Marshals DFAT West Team. He is to be arraigned Thursday in 50th District Court in Pontiac for making a false report or threat of terrorism, according to Oakland County Undersheriff Michael McCabe. The charge, a felony, is punishable by 20 years in prison.

McCabe said Brodie allegedly told an acquaintance on Sept. 4 he was fearful Gorcyca would not rule in his favor in a pending custody case. In the conversation, according to investigators, Brodie said he would kill Gorcya and blow up the Oakland Circuit Court building.

Brodie allegedly indicated he was “ready and willing to go to war” and had been researching Timothy McVeigh and the Oklahoma City bombing. According to investigators, Brodie allegedly “agreed with McVeigh’s view on the government.”

Gorcya could not be reached for comment but her husband, former Oakland County Prosecutor David Gorcyca, said Wednesday night “we are grateful to Warren and Troy police departments and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office for their diligent efforts in apprehending the suspect.”

Members of the sheriff’s Special Investigations Unit reportedly conducted a search of Brodie’s address for items, including possible weapons. It was not know what, if anything, was obtained during the search.
