Rochester Hills — Two masked suspects, including one wearing a New York Yankees baseball cap, are believed responsible for looting about $50,000 from an ATM.

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a PNC bank in the 2000 block of Walton about 5:30 p.m. Sunday after an employee from Diebold Corp. had been dispatched to service the ATM, in a drive-thru island accessed by a tunnel from inside the bank.

The worker said an air conditioner in the island had been removed permitting access to the service stairway and the ATM. Plywood had been placed over the space and the locking mechanism and hinges of the ATM were removed with a cutting torch. Five cassettes of cash — about $50,000 — were removed.

A surveillance video from the bank showed one suspect, described as a black male dressed in a ball cap, balaclava-style ski mask and black leather coat. A second man in a hooded sweatshirt was also wearing a ski mask in the surveillance video.

The theft is under investigation by the FBI and the sheriff's department.
