Hamtramck High School closed after bomb threat
A day that was supposed to start late at Hamtramck High School won’t start at all after a bomb threat made Wednesday morning, a school official confirmed.
The bomb threat was called into the Hamtramck Police Department, said Joanne McBryar, secretary to superintendent Thomas Niczay. Hamtramck police could not immediately be reached Wednesday morning.
Staff and early arriving students to the school at 11410 Charest were sent home, and the district sent out a robo-call to alert those families that hadn’t yet arrived that they don’t need to.
As of 9:15 a.m., Hamtramck police were still at the school, McBryar said, trying to learn whether there are in fact explosives on the premises.
Hamtramck High School has late starts on Wednesdays, with a bell time of 8:51 a.m.; the rest of the school week starts at 7:51 a.m. The late starts let teachers meet and make plans, McBryar said.
