News@noon: Missing child, third debate, lucky pennies

Today is Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, and an Amber Alert has been issued for 3-year-old Marvie Gardner, who was reported missing this morning from a west side Detroit home.

Police suspect he was kidnapped by Michael Grayson, 19, who may be traveling with the child in a stolen 1998 Purple Plymouth Voyager van with Michigan plates: CMB3125.

So long, debates

• Republican candidate Donald Trump shocked viewers during last night's third and final debate by suggesting he may not accept election results next month. "I’ll tell you at the time,” Trump told debate moderator Chris Wallace of Fox News. “I’ll keep you in suspense.”
• Detroit News editorial page editor Nolan Finley called that comment the last straw in a failing candidacy.
• The debate started with Trump and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton contrasting their policy positions on the Supreme Court, immigration and gun rights, before devolving into a sparring match marked by insults and personal accusations.

Stop human trafficking

• The FBI and local authorities teamed up last weekend to rescue seven human trafficking victims in Michigan, according to officials. They also arrested 18 pimps and removed 46 adult prostitutes from the industry.
• The sweep was part of the 10th annual Operation Cross Country X, which saw the rescue of 82 child victims and the arrest of 239 pimps worldwide.
• In announcing the results, officials also released an emotional video of an anonymous woman who survived child sex trafficking in Detroit.

Sloppy Wings

• Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard was "sensational" in Wednesday night's win over the New York Rangers, 2-1, beat writer Ted Kulfan says. He made 32 saves to help nudge the Wings to victory in an otherwise sloppy game.
