Man held in police threats charged in BB gun incident

The 43-year-old Detroit man accused of making threats against Detroit Police and the city’s police chief was charged Thursday with pointing a BB gun at a repo man earlier this month, prosecutors said.

Stuart Horatio Lewis was arraigned on charges of felonious assault and felony firearm, pneumatic gun, before 36th District Court Magistrate Bari Blake Wood.

Lewis allegedly pointed a gun at a man who tried to repossess Lewis’ truck around 4:20 p.m. Oct. 17 in the 19900 block of Exeter.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for Nov. 1. He also is scheduled for a preliminary examination Nov. 7, both proceedings before 36th District Judge Deborah Lewis Langston. Lewis received a $75,000 cash surety bond.

Lewis was arraigned Tuesday in connection with alleged threats against Detroit Police and Detroit Police Chief James Craig. Lewis was charged Oct. 25 with threat of terrorism, possession with intent to deliver marijuana, and malicious destruction of a building near Exeter and West State Fair overnight Oct. 20 or Oct. 21. The graffiti read “kill all cops” and “kill James Craig.” The building’s owner had the graffiti painted over.

Lewis denied painting the threats during an interview on WJBK (Channel 2), said Lewis’ 73-year-old uncle. He also told WWJ-AM that “If I knew who did it or why I would have told them, but I don’t know anything.”

Lewis is due back in court Nov. 1 for a probable cause conference and Nov. 7 for a preliminary examination on the graffiti charge. A $25,000, 10 percent bond was set.
